Similar photos vs. exact duplicates
Exact duplicates may contain identical or matching content. Similar photos can differ in smile, focus, timing, zoom or background. Apple's Photos Duplicates feature can help with detected duplicates, but a sequence of near-identical shots still deserves visual review.
Step 1: Find clusters of similar shots
Open the similar-photos tool in LumoKeep and examine grouped candidates. Similarity analysis is a starting point for review—not an automatic instruction to erase photos.
Step 2: Decide which image to keep
Check sharpness by zooming, compare facial expressions, and look for blinking, motion blur, cropped edges and lighting differences. Sometimes two photos tell different parts of the same story and both deserve to stay.
Step 3: Mark unwanted alternatives
Once you have identified the preferred photo, mark the others for deletion. Avoid bulk decisions on important family, travel, work or document photos until you have viewed each candidate.
Step 4: Review your deletion queue
Check the pending-delete selection before confirming deletion. Keep an original or backup when you need a high-quality master copy. A similar photo cleaner should reduce clutter without forcing automatic removal.
Why not just use Apple's Duplicates album?
Apple Photos can identify certain duplicates. A dedicated similar-photo workflow is useful when you have numerous near-identical shots that are not exact duplicates, such as several portraits taken seconds apart.
FAQ: Are similar photos safe to delete?
Only after you compare them. Similarity alone does not establish that photos are redundant.
FAQ: Does LumoKeep need to upload my pictures?
LumoKeep is designed with on-device photo analysis. You can review its privacy information before granting photo access.
What to try next
After reviewing similar photos, use LumoKeep's swipe cleanup for screenshots and everyday images, or explore large media files to find additional storage savings.
