Frequently asked questions

Common questions

I forgot my PIN. Can PrivateMoment recover it?

PrivateMoment is designed without a server-side recovery copy of your vault credentials. If you cannot unlock the vault with your configured authentication methods, the developer cannot remotely recover the PIN or decrypt the vault for you.

Why can't an encrypted backup be restored without its PIN?

The backup is protected so possession of the backup file alone is not enough to read the vault. You need the correct PIN used to protect that backup.

Where are my photos and videos stored?

Vault content is stored inside PrivateMoment's private app storage on your iPhone. Content is not uploaded to a PrivateMoment cloud service.

Does the private camera save to Apple Photos?

Media captured with the PrivateMoment private camera is designed to go directly into the vault rather than being automatically added to Apple Photos.

Can I export something back to Apple Photos?

Yes. When you choose an export or share action, PrivateMoment can hand the selected content to the destination you explicitly choose through iOS.

Does PrivateMoment use analytics or advertising trackers?

PrivateMoment uses Firebase Analytics for product-quality and feature-usage insights. It does not serve ads, does not use IDFA, does not link AdSupport, disables IDFV collection, and does not enable Google Signals or advertising features. Vault photos, videos, Moment text, PINs, and encryption keys are not sent as analytics events.

Can I store text without a photo?

Yes. A Moment can be text-only, or it can combine a title, note, photos and videos.

How do I move PrivateMoment to a new iPhone?

Create an encrypted backup from PrivateMoment, save it somewhere you control, then restore that backup on the new device using the correct PIN. Face ID is device-local and can be enabled again after restore.
